Recycling means more than wood chippings
In order to find a more decorative use for tree stumps, Joffrey has taken to using his artistic sculpting skills to produce several wonderful woodland inspired sculptures for clients from trees that have had to be felled.

Tree Surgery Manager, Chris Hearn, achieved the highest marks ever recorded at
Coleg Llysfasi in the Theory Examination of the Cert Arb (RFS), achieving his Pass
with Distinction.
Mark Williamson, Tree Surgeon at Benbow Brothers, are also high achievers, passing the examination with Credit.
The Senior Forestry Lecturer at Coleg Llysfasi , Phil Venables, came to Benbow Brothers to present the Certificates to Chris and Mark.
He also presented certificates to Adam Bartlett, Dave Jones, Nick Mapp, and Joffrey Watson, for modules towards the Cert Arb (RFS). He thanked all the personnel for their evening attendance at the College and their commitment to the ninety mile round trip after a day's work.
Director Ken Benbow said, "We are delighted with these achievements and of the commitment of the our Staff in their pursuance of excellence. Benbow Brothers are proud to have been awarded Approved Contractor Status by the Arboricultural Association, we are one of only two companies in Shropshire to have achieved this demanding quality standard. The attention to detail and commitment to excellence of our highly skilled personnel has been independently and properly recognised."
Current Staff Profiles
Ken Benbow - Tree Surgery Director.
Served his apprenticeship in all aspects of timber work when he joined the family
business in 1966 straight from school. He worked in all departments, passed his HGV
and soon established himself as a very proficient timber feller. He spent some six months
in Canada working as a Lumberjack and then came back to the family firm with experience of
modern methods of timber loading which he put into practice with great success.
Les Benbow - Haulage and Merchanting Director.
Studied Engineering at Manchester University. Joined the family firm in 1977
having worked in Industry for ten years. With his sound engineering/mathematical
background he became joint Director with Ken and he runs the Haulage and Merchanting
side of the business.
Dale Benbow - Company Secretary
Formally trained in secretarial studies at Shrewsbury Technical College she then
worked in Insurance with the N.F.U. She was Bursar's Secretary at Ellesmere College
and then Secretary to the Deputies at Thomas Adams School, Wem.
She joined the family business in 1980. When the Company became limited she was
appointed Company Secretary and now deals with all aspects of Administration and Accounts.
Chris Hearn - Tree Surgery Manager
Chris is in charge of all aspects of tree surgery and was promoted to the Senior Management team
in October 2005. Chris brought his expertise to Benbow Brothers when the Company bought out
Midland Tree Specialists in 1991.
Received recognition recently for obtaining the highest recorded marks in Cert. Arb (RFS)
Theory Examination, passing with Distinction.
Adam Bartlett - Tree Surgeon
Adam came on Work Experience from Walford College in 2005 where he completed his
Countryside Management BTec Diploma. He joined the Company in 2006
and has now obtained his Cert. Arb (RFS).
Darren Coxhill - Tree Surgeon
Came to Benbow Bros. under the Jobwise National Traineeship Placement scheme from
Walford College in 1999 and is now one of our most experienced climbers.
Paul Jamieson - HGV driver.
Paul joined the company in 1982 and is the longest serving employee.
As a young boy he came with Ken in his spare time, just to be at work,
and on leaving school he joined the firm as a Forestry Worker,
however, his passion was for driving big vehicles and he could
not wait to pass his H.G.V. and he has driven large H.G.V.'s
for the company since then. His interest in timber haulage has developed over the years.
He studied and passed his C.P.C and he aids Les with the haulage aspect of the business.
Nick Mapp - Tree Surgeon
Came as a student Arborist in 2005 and joined the company as a full-time
Trainee Arborist in 2006 he has gone on to receive his Cert. Arb (RFS ) whilst working for the company.
Robert Norgrove - Tree Surgeon and Yard Foreman
Brought extensive tree surgery knowledge to the company when we bought out Midland Tree
Specialists in 1991. Rob is an experienced Climber and Arborist and is also responsible
for cataloguing and ordering tree surgery equipment.
Joffrey Watson - Tree Surgeon
Joff came on the Youth Training Scheme from Walford College in 1997 and became a
full-time employee in 1999. Last year Joff completed his training and qualified
as Loler Competent Person and is qualified to complete Loler Inspections of Arb.
Equipment. He has now obtained his Cert Arb. (RFS) and we are proud that he has passed with
distinction. Joff is a talented and creative member of the staff as can be seen with his wood
sculptures commissioned by various clients.
Mark Williamson - Tree Surgeon
Recently received his Cert Arb. RFS Certificate with Credit.
Mark came in 2006 from Reaseheath College where he studied for his National
Diploma in Land Based Technology, his sound mechanical/technical background compliments
his skills in arboriculture.
Dave Jones - Tree Surgeon
Came to Benbows as a student in 2005 and continued to gain his Tree Surgeon qualifications until he left in 2008 to persue his long-term ambition to join the R.A.F.
Dave returned to Benbows in 2009 and is proving a valuable member of the work-force.
Greg Moore - Apprentice
Greg came to Benbows in 2007 on a 'day a week' Work Experience basis.
Greg fitted in well and quickly proved his worth. In 2009 he applied to Hereford College of Technology and was accepted on a Work Based Apprenticship which he will complete in 2011.
Tom Singleton - Apprentice
Tom approached Benbows for an Apprenticeship in 2009. He was also accepted by Hereford College of Technology and will complete his course in 2011. He to has settled in with the company very well and is also proving his worth..
Sue Winter - Part-time Administrative Assistant
Sue came in March 2009. With a great deal of experience in the roll of a full-time P.A. she is a welcome addition to the Staff to help with the ever increasing Office administration.
